Preparing the Future Generation of Academic Trauma Surgeons

Founded 160 years ago, Denver Health serves as Colorado's largest safety net health institution, an integrated system that is the model for the nation.  The primary purpose of the fellowship is to develop future leaders in the field of Orthopaedic Trauma.  Graduates will possess expertise in the management of all aspects of care for the multiply injured patient, and will be positioned to enter either academic Orthopaedic Traumatology or high volume practices at Lever 1 Trauma Centers.  The fellow will interact with fellowship trained attending physicians in trauma, microvascular surgery, spine, sports medicine, and upper extremity.  The fellow will be part of a team that includes residents from the University of Colorado and the Navy San Diego programs.  

 

Fellow responsibilities: The fellow holds attending designation at Denver Health and will take independent call every 8th weekday and weekend. The fellow will attend morning fracture conference and weekly didactic lectures. The fellow will give 2 to 3 didactic presentations during their year.  The fellow will operate a minimum of four days a week. There are 2 ortho trauma rooms every day and the fellow has their pick of the cases.  One day a week will be dedicated to a half-day of research and a half-day of clinic. The fellow will attend the annual Orthopaedic Trauma Association meeting and may attend other meetings if they desire.

 

Research:  The department has a full-time research fellow and coordinator to assist in research projects. The fellow must publish one paper and/or one review paper or textbook chapter.  

 

Benefits:  PGY6 at University of Colorado, $68,170 for 2017-2018.  Medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance are provided as well as 18 days of vacation and 6 paid holidays.
